Dr. Paul S. Saenz
Board Certified in Family Practice and Sports Medicine
A native of San Antonio, TX, Dr. Saenz received his medical education at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, TX. He completed his family practice training in Phoenix, AZ, followed by a sports medicine fellowship in Seattle, WA. He returned to San Antonio in 1988 and established himself as the city’s first primary care sports medicine specialist.
Dr. Saenz is Board Certified in both Family Practice and Sports Medicine, and is an associate clinical professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio Medical School and the University of North Texas Health Science Center.
He serves as a team physician for the NBA San Antonio Spurs, the San Antonio Missions Double A Baseball Club, the University of the Incarnate Word and numerous San Antonio area high schools.
Dr. Saenz was appointed to the medical staff for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and for the 1998 Goodwill Games in New York City. He served as team physician for the USA Pentathlon at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. In 2012, he served as a national team physician for both USA Basketball and USA Track and Field.
Dr. Saenz has spent more than 25 years in the study of sports-related concussions concurrent with his role as a ringside physician and national team physician for USA Boxing. He has lectured regionally and nationally on the subject.
Dr. Saenz has been selected as the St. Mary’s University Distinguished Alumnus and voted as one of Texas’ “Top Docs” by Texas Monthly magazine.
