ABOUT
Kyle M. Altman, MD is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in complex revision hip and knee replacement, minimally invasive, robotically-assisted primary total knee replacement, and direct anterior total hip replacement. He maintains a special interest in sports medicine, shoulder replacement, arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee, and adult fracture work.
Although not a native Texan, Dr. Altman has strong ties to San Antonio. He graduated from Trinity University with a BA in economics and a minor in chemistry. He then completed medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio. He then left Texas to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at Prisma Health-Upstate in Greenville, SC which is affiliated with the University of South Carolina, Steadman-Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, and Clemson University Athletics. After residency, he completed an adult reconstruction fellowship at the University of Louisville.
Prior to medicine, Dr. Altman had a stellar soccer career. At Trinity University, he was a two-time team captain, four-time SCAC champion, two-time SCAC Defensive Player of the Year, NSCAA Divison III Runner-up, two-time NSCAA First-Team All-American, and NSCAA Academic-All American. After college, he was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2008 Major League Soccer (MLS) Supplemental Draft by the New England Revolution. He played five years of professional soccer with Minnesota Stars/Minnesota United FC in the North American Soccer League (NASL) where his accolades included Best XI All-Star Team and captaining his team to an NASL championship.
Internationally, Dr. Altman represented the USA men’s soccer team at the 11th Pan-American Maccabi Games in Argentina, the 18th World Maccabiah Games in Israel, and served as team captain and delegation flag-bearer at the 12th Pan-American Maccabi Games in Brazil.
Dr. Altman currently resides in San Antonio with his wife and two young children. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, watching Manchester United soccer games, grilling, and staying active.
